Youth Leading the World Muswellbrook (YLTWM) is a group of high school students from the Upper Hunter Valley. Having grown up in this diverse environment rich with native flora and fauna, we, as young leaders recognise the need to have a connection with one’s natural surroundings.

THE PROJECT

By joining The (re)Generation Project we have combined our action plans with the initiatives of Macquarie University. Our plan incorporates expanding YLTWM to younger ages while sustaining local projects and social media campaigns to broaden awareness of nature’s benefits.

Especially in an area where coal mines are perched next to horse studs and vineyards, we are focusing on sustaining biodiversity and environmental wellbeing for future generations.

Our challenge is to call out to young people who are unaware of local environmental degradation. Our hope is to one day see a balance between economic and environmental sustainability in the Upper Hunter Region.

Now, as year 12 students, we are keen to pass on the capacity to facilitate YLTW Congresses to other students. We have organised a facilitator training in their Hunter River region.

Surveys regarding the effectiveness of the two day session were undertaken. The results are currently being processed and will be shared soon.
