Indigenous Science Education Program (ISEP)

Bush Food Gardens/Ethnography

A major goal of the ISEP is to reinforce Indigenous culture and practice. As part of this goal we assist schools to set up bush food gardens on campus, highlighting local food and medicine species. In 2008 Dunheved and Casino High Schools both completed Aboriginal Cultural gardens.

An important part of this activity involves questioning local Aboriginal elders about their knowledge. In 2009 the group intends coordinating an activity with Maclean community members and high school students to video elders speaking about customary resources, local histories and Aboriginal life.
