Workshop on Clusterous – Monday 18 April 2016

“Clusterous”, is a cluster computing environment using Amazon Web Services (AWS, cloud computing). It has been developed by Sirca within a SIEF funded project. As some of the  large  scale computing in University contexts may migrate to cloud based computing, as an operational expense, this workshop is an opportunity to learn about publicly available software tools (via GitHub) to support cluster computing. Using photonics dynamical systems research as an example (don’t be intimidated by this), the MQ and Sirca teams will introduce Clusterous and illustrate its use. The presentations will be given in a way to communicate the potential benefit that Clusterous brings to a broad range of research areas. There will be plenty of opportunity for researchers to ask questions to gain a real sense of what time investment and learning tasks will be involved for them to build the knowledge to start using these tools. For those who already undertake  high power computing it is an opportunity to learn how they might use the AWS environment to augment or meet their computing needs.
